Weekend Line-up: College Football

College Football

There are some great match ups this weekend and some legendary rivals going at it with big stakes on the line. This week had the first official rankings out, so the ranking numbers this week will look different from the AP rankings of last week. Here are the games to watch:

#5 Oklahoma (7-1) @ #11 Oklahoma State (7-1)

3 pm on FS1

This rivalry is called the “Bedlam Series” and this year there is a lot on the line. Both teams only have one loss on the season and with TCU are the best teams in the BIG 12. But it’s not hard to imagine the BIG 12 not getting a single team in the College Football playoff. Especially if they all have 2 losses. Suffice it to say, the loser here is out.

#12 LSU (6-2) @ #2 Alabama (8-0)

7 pm on CBS

Surprisingly, Alabama was ranked 2nd in the official rankings. It’s nice to see the committee that does the rankings has put an emphasis on strength of schedule by giving Georgia the top spot who has had a much more rigorous schedule. LSU is a dangerous team who could give Alabama a good game.

#4 Clemson (7-1) @ #20 NC State (6-2)

2:30 pm on ABC

Clemson is the last one in the top 4 for a playoff spot. They have a tough team of NC State on the road this weekend. If they lose this, will it kick the ACC out of contention for a playoff spot?

#7 Penn State (7-1) @ #24 Michigan State (6-2)

11 am on FOX

The BIG 10, like the BIG 12, is on the outside looking in. Without an undefeated team staying at 1-loss is important for Penn State to stay in the hunt. But Michigan State has played spoiler already this season.

#13 Virginia Tech (7-1) @ #10 Miami (7-0)

7 pm on ABC

Miami is a member of a Power 5 conference, they are undefeated and they are ranked 10th. The reason is they have played no quality opponents. This week they have Virginia Tech at home, the first real test of the season. In two weeks they will take on #3 Notre Dame. If they can win out and beat Clemson in the ACC Championship they should get in the Playoff. But this week is the first step to that and Virginia Tech is a good team.

The PAC-12 is out of Playoff contention unless some miracle or disaster happens to those we’ve already mentioned. Here are the two best PAC-12 games of the weekend:

#22 Arizona (6-2) @ #17 USC (7-2)

9:45 on ESPN

#21 Stanford (6-2) @ #25 Washington State (7-2)

2:30 on FOX
