Best U.S. Winter Olympic Moments (with video)

The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics have come to a close. It was not a great Olympics for Team U.S.A., but it certainly had some glorious highlights. Here are the best moments.

  1. Jessie Diggins wins the first ever U.S.A. women’s cross country skiing medal. It’s gold.

The call for this will go down in Olympic history, “And here comes Diggins…. Yes! Yes! Yes!”

And her reaction was that of all the American’s watching. Great moment.

2. Men’s Curling winning Gold.

This game was not as exciting as the whole story was compelling. At one point team USA stood at 2-4, way outside the playoff hunts. In their run of 5 straight wins they took out world power houses Great Britain, Sweden and Canada (twice). The American’s were inspiring. My favorite part came in one of the skip, John Shuster’s post match interviews. While describing the shot that won them the Gold Medal he points out that every member of the team had one of their stones count. He attributed the win to the team and to no individual. This is the first Gold in Curling for the United States.

3. USA Women’s Hockey finally wins Gold

Team USA has played bridesmaids too many times to the Canadian Hockey Team. This year, they finally stood atop that podium.

4. Chris Mazdzer Silver Medal in Luge.

An American man had never won a luge medal. In his route to Silver he defeated two of the world powerhouse Germans. The amount of American pride was enough to make all red-blooded Americans cheer.

5. Shaun White redeems himself with Gold.

I’ve made it quite clear my opinions on this activity. Yet Shaun White speaking about never getting over his fall in Sochi hits at an individuals core. Watching him return to the top of the podium was glorious.

6. Mikaela Shiffrin wins Gold in Giant Slalom.

Shiffrin was one of the biggest stars coming into this Olympics. She is taking the reigns from Lindsey Vonn in U.S. women’s alpine skiing. Here she was able to surprise the world with a Gold in the Giant Slalom. She came up short in the Slalom the next day which is her best event.

7. Lindsey Vonn goes out on a Bronze highlight.

Lindsey Vonn has been the best Winter Olympic Athlete for Team U.S.A for ten years. This year she said goodbye to the Olympics and in her best event finished Bronze. This is a woman who has undergone injuries that would have retired any other athlete. All American’s can be proud of her tenacity.

8. John Henry Krueger shocks the world with a Silver in the 1000m short track.

This isn’t a story that got much publicity but it was an amazing accomplishment. Krueger surprised the world by making the 1000m Final and made American hearts proud by bringing home a silver.

These were the best moments for American fans.
